Tulane University Campus Health Website Redesign (2022)
The Project
Campus Health had been needing a website overhaul for quite some time, but too many things kept standing in the way (staffing shortages, the pandemic, other organizational priorities, etc.). Finally, in the spring of 2022, my team was given the green light to completely reimagine and rebuild our web site. After months of diligent and focused work, we launched our shiny new site in July 2022.
The Process
First I took a dive into our analytics and conducted an audit of our site map. I used this data to write a website restructuring plan aimed at promoting vital information that was buried by our old web structure. I also wrote a plan to consolidate and clean out bloated, stale, and unnecessary content.
I wrote detailed content plans for all of our landing pages including some hand sketched wireframes. I sent my plans to a third-party web design contractor who wrote custom CSS to achieve my desired layouts. This was an interative process and sometimes took a bit of back-and-forth, and sometimes I ended up editing some of the CSS myself.
Once our landing page structures were complete, my team and I began the painstaking process of migrating our interior pages. While migrating, we cleaned up problematic heading structures and other accessibility problems. We also cheerfully left behind pages that were no longer relevant.
Our final step was to coordinate photo shoots to give our website a photography refresh.
The Result
Our new website has been given high praise for being much more user friendly than our previous version. We look forward to working on the next phase of our website improvement plan in the coming year.
